Fred Dean Dies Sunday; Services Held Wednesday

Fred Dean, 65, Niobrara resident for 54 years, died in a Scottsbluff Hospital Sunday. Funeral services were being held from the Peet Chapel in Lusk Wednesday afternoon.

Fred Homer Dean, son of C. M. and Ella Dean was born November 16, 1899 near Whiting, Iowa.

Philip King of the Lusk Church of Christ and Ed. M. McQueen of the Torrington Church of Christ officiated at the service. Mr. King also sang a solo and Mrs. Ramie Fosher, Mrs. Hobart Cockreham, Al Davenport and Lafe Culver sang as a quartet. Mrs. J. P. Watson was organist.

Casket bearers were Bill Rush, Ira Lamb, Hobart Cockreham, Ed Hoy, Harold Parriot and Raimie Fosher.

Fred Homer Dean, son of C. M. and Ella Dean was born November 16, 1899 near Whiting, Iowa. His early childhood was spent near Whiting, but when 11 years old he moved with his parents near Node where the Dean family homesteaded. Later they purchased the George Voorhees ranch east of Node. It was here Fred spent the remainder of his life engaged in ranching, continuing to operate the fine ranch after the death of his parents.

On July 3, 1950 he and Mrs. Stella Vargason of Lusk were married. He had no children of his own, but help rear Mrs. Vargason's daughter, Linda Carol.

He was an active member of the Lusk Church of Christ through the years.

He is survived by his wife, Stella Vargason of Lusk; a foster daughter, Linda Carol McDaniel of Cheyenne; a sister, Verna Reed of Lusk; two nephews, Lewis Beyers of Casper and Richard Reed of Richland, Wash.

A brother, Carl, and sister, Mrs. Lulu Beyers, died previously.
