Vivian N. Schaaf

Vivian N. Schaaf of Murfreesboro, Tennessee, 93, passed away peacefully on February 20, 2025. Memorial arrangements are pending. Vivian was born on November 14, 1931 to Henry and Vivian (Butler) Kaan on the family ranch in Lusk, Wyoming. Her mother sadly passed away during childbirth.

Vivian spent her entire childhood on the ranch and graduated from Lusk High School in 1949.Vivian and Henry (Hank) Schaaf were united in marriage on October 8, 1950, and were married for 63 years, residing in Nebraska and Colorado.

She is survived by four children – David H. Schaaf of Greeley, Colorado, Cynthia (Cindy) E. Lowry of Murfreesboro, Tennesse, Paul E. Schaaf of Wendell, North Carolina, and Timothy (Tim) W. Schaaf of Longmont, Colorado, in addition to four grandchildren and four (soon to be five) great-grandchilden.

She was preceded in death by her husband Hank Schaaf, her parents Henry and Vivian Kaan, stepmothers Amelia (Frosheiser) and Isabel (Whittwer), brother Henry L. (Faye) Kaan, and sisters Ardith K. Dixon and Henrietta Jean Baker.

In addition to raising her four children and faithfully supporting her husband’s business endeavors, Vivian worked hard in several professions. She always had a heart for children and initially wanted to pursue work in the pediatric nursing profession attending nurses training for about a year prior to marriage.

She spent time as a telephone operator, managed a grocery store owned by Hank, earned her real estate license in Colorado, and spent many years working at Hewlett-Packard Company in Loveland, Colorado in various production line activities. Vivian immensely enjoyed crafting and produced beautiful works of cross stitch, crochet and latch rug making into her 90’s. She also was an avid reader and puzzle enthusiast. Vivian was a devout Christian and throughout her life imparted her love of Christ to family, friends and neighbors. Although her kind heart, generosity and warm smile will be missed, we are comforted knowing that she has now been welcomed into Jesus’ arms in her new eternal home
