George L. Copeland
George Louis Copeland, 69, of Worland died Friday, March 21, at the Veterans' Administration Hospital in Cheyenne.
Memorial services with military honors were held Wednesday, Mar. 26 at Veile Mortuary Chapel in Worland, with the Rev. Richard Storement of the Methodist Church officiating. His body was cremated.
Copeland was born on Aug. 17, 1916 in Lovell, a son of George H. and Sarah J. Copeland. Having resided in the Big Horn Basin for most of his life. Copeland served in the Marines from 1940 to 1942 in the Solomon Islands.
On Sept. 15, 1967, he married Ruth Ellen Burnham in Douglas. The couple moved in 1971 to Worland where he was a truck driver at the Pepsi Cola plant for 12 years. He was also an oil field production employee.
Copeland was a member of the Lusk Lodge B. P. O. E. for 27 years, Veterans of Foreign Wars and American Legion.
Survivors include his wife of Worland; a son, H. W. "Butch" Copeland of Las Vegas, NV; a stepson, Jon Burnham of Lusk; a daughter, Mary Lou Bower of Worland; and three stepdaughters, Sue Cross of Douglas, Janice Edwards of Independence, MO, and Dana Vineyard of Wheatland.
He is also survived by a brother, Frank R. Copeland of Greybull; by three sisters, Ruby Hansen of Lovell, Leneta Hornick and Wanna Hulse, both of Thermopolis; 14 grandchildren and two great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his parents and a brother.
Memorials may be sent to the Big Horn Basin Children's Center in Thermopolis.
