Russell "Rusty" Lee Fitzwater

Born on Aug. 1, 1967, in Newcastle to Darrell “Duke” and Connie (Burgener) Fitzwater.

Died on Nov. 1, 2020, in Sassebo, Japan. His father preceded him in death in 2017.

He is survived by his mother, Connie Fitzwater, his ex-wife, Tomoko; two daughters, Sarah and Nina Fitzwater, stepson, Yi Dah; brother, Kelly Fitzwater and wife Shana; sister, Jenny Burke and husband Ed; five nieces and nephews; numerous aunts, uncles and cousins; and dear friends, Aaron, Carl, Rick and many others.

Rusty graduated from Niobrara County High School in 1985, and in the fall of ’85, he joined the Navy, where he served 22 years. After retirement from the military, he contracted with the U.S. Government for 13 years.

While he loved challenges, and experienced many adventures, he especially enjoyed time with family and friends on his boat, and time he spent restoring his 1966 Ford Falcon. Rusty embraced life and people. He was always happy and made anyone who was in his presence feel special. He will be missed immensely by so many.

A memorial service will be held Saturday, June 19, 2021, at 2 p.m. at Dellview Cemetery in Manville. A reception will follow at 3 Sisters Café.
