AGED RESIDENT OF LUSK CALLED BY DEATH TUESDAY

Mrs. C.L. Christian Passes Away After Illness of Few Days

Another of the pioneers of Wyoming has crossed to the other side. Mrs. C.L. Chrisitan passed away at her home here shortly before noon Tuesday after an illness of about three days' duration. Death was caused by a complication of diseases. Her husband and nine children were at her bedside when the end came.

About thirty-three years ago the Christian family moved to Wyoming and located at Kirtley, where they went to ranching and also to farming, which was thought almost impossible in this state in those days. Here they raised their wonderful family of thirteen children, all of which lived to grow to manhood and womanhood, although now one son and one daughter have preceded their mother in death.

They were Mrs. Eliza Nicodemus, who died in Pennsylvania about two years ago, shortly after moving to that state from Wyoming, and Rollin Christian, who died here about three and a half years ago, shortly after being discharged from the army.

About five years ago, Mr. and Mrs. Christian moved to Lusk where they have since made their home, with the exception of a few winters spent in Florida.

Mrs. Christian had the true character of the pioneer women, who, with their husbands, bravely faced the perils and hardships of settling up a new country. Her friends were counted by her acquaintance, which included all of the old-timers in this part of the country and those of later years. she was a devoted wife and mother, and the world is better for her having lived.

Her loss, while felt the keenest by the immediate family, will also be recorded throughout the entire community.

Her maiden name was Sarah Emma Pace and she was born in Decatur county, Ia., on may 22, 1859. She later moved to Carrol county, where on July 11, 1878 she was married to Chris L. Christian. They came to Wyoming in 1890, the year in which the territory was made a state.

Besides her husband she leaves the following children: Miss Amy Christian, Miss Freida Christian and Mrs. O.D. Moyer of Lusk; J.H. and Raymond Christian of Kirtley; Mrs. Garrett Wilson of Denver; Mrs. George Reynolds of Chadron; Mrs. Orville Johns of Warren; Mrs. Charles Wormwood of Glendo; Andrew Christian of Glenrock and Mrs. Morey Park who resides in Pennsylvania. Thirteen grandchildren and one brother in Missouri also survive her.

Funeral services will be held at the Baptist church, Saturday morning at 10 o'clock, Rev. D.J. Clark officiating.

The Herald-Standard joins the host of friends who offer their heart-felt sympathy at this sad hour to the bereaved ones.

FUNERAL SERVICES ARE HELD FOR MRS. C.L. CHRISTIAN SATURDAY

The Lusk Herald-Standard, March 8, 1923

Funeral services for Mrs. C.L. Christian were held fin the Baptist church last Saturday morning at 10 o'clock with Rev. D.J. Clark officiating. Three sons and three sons-in-law were pallbearers. They were Andrew, James and Raymond Christian and Orville Johns, George Reynolds, and Morey Parks.

Plans had been made to leave immediately following the services for the Pleasant Ridge cemetery that the body might be laid to rest beside that of her son, Rollin, but a storm which grew worse as the forenoon progressed made it almost impossible to undertake such a long trip so it was postponed until the abatement of the storm.

Sunday morning, however, the trip was made in bob sleds. The mourners suffered with the intense cold but the ride was made a little easier by a stop at the Harry Fancher ranch home where hot coffee was awaiting them.
