Services for Gladys M. Chard, 80, were held at 2 p.m. Wednesday, May 22 in the Peet Mortuary Chapel with the Rev. Larry Bartlett officiating. Burial followed in the Crawford Cemetery at Crawford, Neb.

Chard died Saturday, May 18, at Platte County Memorial Hospital in Wheatland. She was born Nov. 8, 1910, in Crawford, the daughter of Charles Lester and Grace Pearle Finley. She spent her younger years in Crawford and later moved with the family to Whitman, Wyo., where she attended grade school. She graduated from high school in Lusk.

Following graduation, she worked for the Jim Christian ranch near Whitman, where she later met her husband, Arloph H. Chard, better known as "Mike" They were married on May 17, 1941, in Chadron, Neb., and both worked on the Christian ranch.

They moved to Lance Creek in 1942 where they resided until 1983. During that time in Lance Creek, she was a member of the Gumbo Hustlers Club where she made numerous friends. Following a hunting accident in October 1983, they moved to Lusk and lived in the Ranger Apartments. After Mike passed away, Gladys remained at the Ranger for seven years, until suffering a stroke. At that time she lived with a niece, Delores Bennett.

She enjoyed gardening and hunting with her husband, as well as the many fishing trips they shared. She was a devoted wife and was always willing to help other people.

Besides her husband, she was preceded in death by her parents, Charles and Grace Finley, a brother, David Finley, and two sisters, Ethele J. Backhouse and Gertrude Shaffer.

Survivors include one uncle, Fred Finley of Scottsbluff, Neb.; two sisters, Ilah Graber and Wynonna Martin both of Sheridan, Wyo. and numerous nieces, nephews and cousins.
