John H. Roy, Former County Treasurer, Dies at Home Here After Long Illness

Highly Respected Citizen Passes Away at Home in Lusk, Friday Morning

John H. Roy, former country treasurer of Niobrara County, member of the Lusk City Council, and one of the community's most highly respected citizens, died at his home in Lusk, Friday morning, December 14, after an illness of heart trouble extending over quite a period.

Mr. Roy had been under treatment at a hospital in Casper for a few weeks, and showed some improvement for a while, but was forced to his bed shortly after his return and failed to rally. Funeral services were held from the Congregational Church Sunday afternoon, Rev. Edwin F. Irwin officiating. A quartet composed of R.A. Faulk, Ford B. Kuns, Mrs. C.E. Marvin and Mrs. H.J.Templeton furnished the music. Interment was made in the Lusk Cemetery, arrangements being in charge of the Midwest Mortuary. Pallbearers were chosen from his close friends and neighbors, those being Michael Cordell, Henry Petz, N.E. Hartwell, E.M. Criss, R.A. Faulk and Edward M. Arnold.

Honorary pallbearers, representing the city were Mayor Foster Rogers, Thomas O. Miller, Floyd Deuel, Glen I Willson, W.B. Street and J.D. Lorenzen.

Mr. Roy had been in the contracting and building business here for some time, and was active in business and civic affairs of the town and county until ill health forced his retirement.

OBITUARY

John Henry Roy was born at Litchfield, Herkimer County, New York, September 10, 1863. He moved to Oakfield, Fond du Lac County, Wisconsin, in 1884, where within a year he was married to Julia Hubbard.

Mr. Roy and his family moved to Lusk, Wyoming, in 1904, where he bought a cattle ranch and engaged in the cattle business until 1909. He then devoted his time to the interests of the community and county. He served as county treasurer of Niobrara county and also as city councilman of Lusk and has always shown an interest in public affairs. At time of his death he was a member of the city Council of Lusk. He passed from this life at his home in Lusk on December 14, at the age of 71 years.

He is survived by his wife and three children--Mrs. Alfred Johnson of Lusk, Mrs. George Ginther of Casper, and Lloyd Roy. One son, Percy Martin Roy, passed on at the age of two years. He is also survived by a number of grandchildren.

Mr. Roy was admired by all. He showed, both in private and public life, that he had the courage of his convictions. He was fearless, yet open-minded, sympathetic and kind. He unswerving followed his convictions, supporting the right and opposing the things he felt harmful to the best interests of the community. In public life he was known for his honesty and integrity and had the confidence of all. He was careful and thrifty, both in his personal affairs and in public office.
