Well Known Character of Roundup Days Passes Away After Illness of Three Weeks

Howard F.(Slim) Carr, old-time resident of the county, passed away Sunday morning, June 30th, at the age of 58 years, 9 months and 28 days. His death was the result of a cancerous growth on the abdomen. An operation disclosed the growth about three weeks ago, and recovery was impossible.

Funeral services were held at the Baptist Church at 2:30 o'clock Tuesday afternoon, with Rev. B.F. Farar officiating. Burial was made in the Lusk Cemetery.

He is survived by his wife, five sons, Everett F. of Lance Creek, Charles, Earl, Warren and Morris of Lusk; one daughter, Eunice Lorene Carr, and two sisters, Mrs. Martin Quinlin of Lancer and Mrs. Fred Bohnstid of Cheyenne.

"Slim" Carr was a well-known character in the round-up days of Wyoming. In 1919 he drove the wagon on the last roundup of the Tom Bell herd. He was also employed for a number of years at the JA6 ranch, at that time operated by Lawrence and Alfred Johnson. In 1911 he became foreman of the TJ ranch of the Spaugh Land and Livestock Company. Later he worked as title inspector for the U.S. Reclamation Service at Cody, Wyo.

Howard Frederick Carr was born in Milwaukee, Wis., September 2, 1876. As a child he moved to Chicago with his family, where he attended public school. He later attended the C.B.C. University two years. At the age of 18 he came to Wyoming and since that time had resided in this community. He has made his home for the past 16 years near Hat Creek. He was united in marriage to Pauline Rasher and to this union five sons and one daughter were born.

The pallbearers were Thomas O. Miller, Ed Stewart, Walter Scott, A.E. Johnson, Gus Deitchler and Chris Joss. Music was furnished by Mrs. C.E. Marvin, Mrs. J.P. Watson, D.D. Caley and George Gibson, who rendered "Rock of Ages," "Nearer My God to Thee," and Lord Have Thine Own Way," and were accompanied on the piano by Mrs. Edna Howard DeCastro.

The Midwest Funeral Home had charge of the arrangements, interment being made in the Lusk Cemetery.
