Sarah "Sadie" Martha Seaman
Mrs. Sarah Seaman Dies Suddenly
The Lusk Herald, April 6, 1944
Mrs. Sarah Seaman, 67, died suddenly at the Spencer Hospital Monday morning from a heart attack, after she apparently was recovering satisfactorily from a major operation several days previously.
Mrs. Seaman was the wife of the late Samuel Seaman, who passed away about a year and a half ago.
They were early settlers in the country north of Lusk and a range of hills on what was then their ranch still are known as the Seaman Hills.
Some 35 years ago, Mr. and Mrs. Seaman sold their ranch property in this county and located on a ranch north of Harrison, Nebr.
They were the parents of three sons, Oliver and Charles, who survive their mother, and reside in the same vicinity; another son, Clifford, was fatally injured while playing football on the Harrison High School team.
Funeral services will be held from the Methodist Church in Harrison on Friday afternoon and burial will be made beside her husband and son.
The Harrison Sun, April 6, 1944
The death of Mrs. Sarah Seaman, Monday, came as a shock to the members of her family and friends. Mrs. Seaman had undergone an operation March 23rd at the Spencer Hospital, Lusk, Wyo., and was making satisfactory recovery. She had expected to be taken to her home in a few days and on the morning of her demise had been about her room and seemed to be feeling exceptionally well. But the shock of her illness had evidently left her heart weak and she suffered two attacks, being unable to rally from the latter.
Sarah Martha McKenzie was born April 30, 1877, ad Goderich, Ontario, Canada, the daughter of Julia and John McKenzie. The father passed away when she was a baby. At the age of four, the mother and daughter moved to Detroit, Michigan. When eight or nine years of age her mother died, and she then made her home with her grandparents, Mr. and Mrs. Dave Rogers. In 1887 she came to Hat Creek, Wyo., to live with an aunt, Mrs. Josephine St. Clair. Her grandparents soon moved to Wyoming and she again made her home with them, continuing to reside near Hat Creek.
October 4, 1893, she was united in marriage to Samuel R. Seaman of Hat Creek, Wyo. To this union were born four sons. The couple lived on a horse ranch for a number of years in the Seaman hills, north of Hat Creek, later moving to Old Woman Creek, Wyo., and then to the ranch northwest of Harrison, where she resided at the time of her death.
She became a member of the Harrison Methodist Church in April, 1922 and worked faithfully and diligently to serve her God. She was a member of the Woodbine Rebekah Lodge of Harrison.
Mrs. Seaman contributed much to the communities in which she lived, cheerfully doing deeds of kindness and usefulness in an unassuming way. Graciously she greeted visitors to the home where hospitality always prevailed. She was deeply devoted to the members of her family throughout her life.
Two sons, Charley and Ollie; three grandchildren, Shirley, Olita and Julie, and two daughters-in-law, Elizabeth and Hazel, remain to mourn the death of dear mother. Her faith in that "We shall meet beyond the river" has been manifest during the time she has carried on her life's duties since the death of her loved ones; first her infant son, then her son Clement in 1923, and her husband in 1942. And now she has gone to meet her departed loved ones, and leaving for the loved ones surviving the memory of dear mother's sweet smile. Many friends will also miss her from their midst.
Funeral services will be conducted at the Methodist church Friday afternoon at 2:30 in charge of Rev. Fred Johnson, with interment in the Harrison cemetery in the family lot.
