Dean Clarence Rumney

Dean Clarence Rumney passed away June 27, 2015 at the home of Dick and Terry Filter in Aurora CO at the age of 67.

Dean was born October 6, 1947 to James Edward and Gladys Black Rumney. He grew up on the family ranch in the Cheyenne River Community of northern Niobrara County, WY.

4-H played an important part in his growing up years and he received a number of awards.

Dean attended the Cheyenne River Country School through the eighth grade then lived in Lusk during the week to attend Niobrara County High School, Lusk, WY. His education continued at Chadron State College and the University of Wyoming.

Dean enlisted in the Army in 1967 and served in Vietnam. He came home from the war unharmed physically but suffered from Post Traumatic Stress Syndrome, which lead him to do much writing of his experiences and how his life was affected. He had a deep understanding of Vietnam issues and of the affects of war. He spent a lot of time researching. He wrote a screen play and had a book almost completed. He wanted his story told.

He was discharged from the Army in 1969. He returned to the home ranch for a year then enrolled at the University of Wyoming. He didn't complete his degree and moved to Cheyenne, Wyoming, where he met and married Linda Jones Cooley December 3, 1973. Dean and his family moved to Denver several years later and remained in the Denver area.

He preferred to be his own boss and operated several home business, as well as holding a variety of jobs over the years.

Dean was preceded in death by his wife, his parents, and two brothers.

Survivors include two daughters: Andrea Merrill and Julie Rumney; two sons: Gregory and Justin, all of the Denver area; two step sons: Grant and Glenn Cooley; one step daughter Gail Shank; and one sister: Elizabeth (Betty) Jean LaToush of Scott City, KS.

Dean was cremated and his ashes were buried along side his wife Linda, at Fort Logan National Cemetery, Denver, CO.

A memorial service will be held at the First Baptist Church on June 25, 2016 at 2 p.m.
