RAY CORNET IS DROWNED WHILE IN LAVOYE POOL

Lusk young Man Loses Life in Mysterious Manner; Burial made Here

Raymond A. Cornet, 21-year-old son of Mr. and Mrs. A. E. Cornet of near Lusk, was accidentally drowned in the Lavoyeland swimming pool at Lavoye, in the Salt Creek oil fields, near Casper last Sunday, July 3, the funeral services taking place in Lusk on Wednesday, July 6, burial being made in the Lusk cemetery.

The young man's body was found in the pool after the other members of a swimming party had missed him. Deputy Sheriff Les Snow of Lavoye discovered the body in the pool. When it was recovered some bruises were found on the chest, but the exact manner of his death has not yet been determined. It is believed by his friends that he either dived and struck his head, or was seized with cramps while in the pool, and not being missed from the crowd, met his death unnoticed.

Manager Garrison of the swimming pool, where the young man met his death, is credited with saying that he had taken several drinks before entering the water, and blamed liquor for the accident. Among his friends the young man was known for his sobriety, and it is not believed that he ever took a drink of liquor. All the employees of the Casper Motor Co., where he was employed, and who were associated with him constantly, say he was never known to drink, and it is believed the swimming pool manager was merely trying to shift the blame for the accident.

Young Cornet had gone to the swimming pool with a party of friends, which included his sister, Mrs. Lucy Walden. He was a poor swimmer and would not go in the pool with the rest of the party, but after they had come out of the water he went in alone. Being missed by his friends a search was instituted, which resulted in the finding of the body.

The funeral was held in Lusk on Wednesday, July 6, from the Midwest Undertaking parlors, with Rev. Costgin officiating, burial being made in the Lusk Cemetery. The pallbearers were Claude Updike, Bennie Updike, Wm. Jassman, Christian Jassman, Lester Updike and Robert Armstrong.

Raymond A. Cornet was born in Belgium, March 2, 1907. He came to the United States with his parents when 5 months old. He lived with his parents in Sioux City, Iowa, for a year and a half, when they came to Wyoming and took up a homestead 12 miles north of Lusk. He attended school in the vicinity of the ranch home, and has grown to manhood in this community. He took a course at the Lincoln Automotive School, and for the past two years has been employed as a garage mechanic in Casper. At the time of death he was employed at the Casper Motor Co., where he was highly esteemed by his fellow employees and the management.

Casper Coroner's Jury Returns Accident Verdict.

CASPER - A coroner's jury returned a verdict yesterday that Raymond Cornet, the Lusk youth who lost his life in the plunge at Lavoye Sunday night, met death in an accidental manner by drowning.

Examination of the stomach contents of the youth was conducted at the inquest, which was held in the offices of Prosecuting Attorney W. J. Wehrli.

The coroner's jury was composed of A. B. Chapman, Harry Mills and C. J. Devereaux.

The body of young Cornet was sent to Lusk last night, where funeral services will be held. Surviving him are his parents, Mr. and Mrs. Arthur Cornet of Lusk; two sisters, Mrs. Lucy Walden of Casper, and Mrs. Fred Johanberg of Stroud, and a brother, Clifford, of Lusk - Casper Herald.
