Mrs. Candis Bryant Passes Away at Home Sunday;Concluding rites Wednesday; Burial Lusk Cemetery

Concluding rites were held for Mrs. Candis Bryant at two o'clock, Wednesday afternoon, September 19th, from the chapel of the Peet Funeral Home. Rev. Otha B. Holcomb, pastor of the First Baptist Church of Lusk, officiated.

Enriching the services was the singing of "We Are Going Down the Valley," "This World Is Not My Home," "Beyond the Sunset," by Mesdames Emerson Bonner and Ab DeCastro. Members of the Silver Cliff Chapter of American War Mothers held their ritualistic service at the chapel, with Mrs. Knopp singing "Abide With Me." Mrs. Judson P. Watson presided at the organ.

Active pallbearers were A. R. "Pat" Miller, Rulo Roberts, C. E. Marvin, Dudley Fields, Lester Meade and Lou Osborne. Honorary pallbearers were J. P. Costlow, Max Heth, J. G. McGinnis, Melvin Miller, J. P. Jensen and John Goddard.

Candis Freda Meyers was born on October 2nd, 1873 at Chico, Texas, to Mr. and Mrs. William Meyers, and departed this life at her home in Lusk September 16th, 1956 at the age of 82 years, 11 months and 14 days.

When a small infant her mother passed away and her grandparents took her to their home in Minburn, Iowa where she grew to young womanhood. On March 8th, 1893, she was united in marriage to John F. Bryant also of Minburn. To this union were born four children, three of whom survive. They are Fred A., John Wilbur and Elven Jay. A daughter, Iris Marjorie, passed away in infancy.

In March, 1905, she, with her husband and two small sons moved to Alpena, So. Dak., where they made their home for the next five years. After the death of their infant daughter, she with her husband and three sons moved to a homestead near Hat Creek, Wyo., in May, 1911, where she made her home until the winter of 1923 when ill health caused her to move to Lusk where she had since resided.

On February 21st, 1950 her husband passed away and since that time she has resided in the family home on Maple Street except for brief visits to the homes of her sons.

Mrs. Bryant was a member of the First Baptist church of Lusk, and was a member of high standing in the American War Mother organization, having returned from a convention of the War Mothers at Thermopolis, Wyo., only short hours before her death. She was a past state president and past chapter president of this patriotic organization.

She leaves to mourn her passing three sons, Fred A. of Hat Creek, Wyoming, John Wilbur and Elven Jay (Ted) of Powell, Wyo. Also there are 13 grandchildren, 12 great grandchildren, four half-brothers and two half-sisters surviving besides many loving friends.

Mrs. Bryant Dies of heart Attack In Lusk Sunday

Mrs. Candis Bryant, 83, died at her home in Lusk Sunday from a heart attack. Funeral services were held Wednesday at 2:00 p.m. from the Peet chapel with Rev. Otha B. Holcomb, pastor of the First Baptist Church, officiating. Burial was in the Lusk Cemetery.

Mrs. Emerson Bonner and Mrs. A. F. DeCastro sang, "We Are Going Down the Valley", "This World Is Not My Home" and "Beyond the Sunset". Mrs. J. P. Watson was organist.

The Silver cliff Chapter of War Mothers conferred chapel services at the casket. Mrs. Gerald Knopp sang "Abide With Me".

Active casket bearers were Pat Miller, Rulo Roberts, C. E. Marvin, Dudley Fields, Lester Meade and Lou Osborn. (Honorary) bearers were J.P. Costlow, Max Heth, J. G. McGinnis, Melvin Miller, J. P. Jensen and John Goddard.

Her husband died in 1950 and an infant daughter previously.

Survivors include three sons, Fred A. of Hat Creek, John W. and Eiven Jay of Powell; 13 grandchildren, 12 great grandchildren, four half brothers and two half sisters.
