Dorothy M. Meier

Dorothy M. (Jordan) Meier passed away on December 1, 2015 at the Niobrara Health and Life Center in Lusk, WY.

Dorothy was born on May 27, 1917 in Sioux County, NE, the daughter of Daniel and Barbara (Wasserburger) Jordon. She was raised and attended school in Harrison, NE. After graduating from Sioux County High School in 1935 she taught school in Sioux County.

She married Melvin E. "Pete" Meier on June 17, 1940 in Crawford, NE. For the next 13 years they lived in Harrison where they owned and operated a grocery store and a movie theater.

In 1953 they moved to Lusk, where they purchased the Wyoming Theater and built the Lusk Drive-In Theater. In 1962 they built and operated the Bluebird Bowling Lanes and later the Meier Trailer Court and Campground. After selling their various businesses, they retired. In retirement, Dorothy became a real estate agent for Com-See Realty for a number of years selling houses and ranches.

Dorothy enjoyed golfing, bowling, reading and playing bridge. She also taught bridge for many years and only stopped playing bridge when she was 95. Dorothy and Pete enjoyed traveling and spending the winters with their daughter, Ardis in Arizona, California, Texas and Virginia. She was a member of St Leo's Catholic Church.

Survivors include two daughters, Glennis A. Torpey and husband, Tom of Blackhawk, SD, Ardis J. Meier and husband, Jim Cerha of Lusk; one son, Dennis C. Meier and wife, Cathy of Lusk; eight grandchildren and 13 great-grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Pete; a daughter, Rhonda Lee; her parents; two brothers, Edward and Allen; four sisters, Edna, Blanche, Gertrude, and Della.

Services will be conducted at 1:30 p.m., Wednesday, December 9 at St. Leo's Catholic Church in Lusk by Fr. Drew Duncan. They will be preceded by a rosary at 11:00 a.m.

Memorials may be made to the Niobrara County Library.

Arrangements are being handled by Pier Funeral Home of Lusk.
