Fred Thielbar Dies In Calif. Saturday

Fred A. Thielbar, a homesteader near Van Tassell and a Highway Department mechanic at Lusk for many years, died in Oakland, Calif. Saturday.

Mr. Thielbar still owns a ranch south of Van Tassell which includes his original homestead. he came to Wyoming from Peoria, Illinois in about 1913 where he had worked for the Caterpillar Corporation.

He later went to work for the Wyoming Highway Department as a mechanic and in the early 1930's moved to Cheyenne where he worked with the Highway Department as a master mechanic. Later he again took a position with Caterpillar and moved to the Oakland plant.

He was a past master of Harmony Masonic Lodge and was, at the time of his death, a member of the lodge. He was also the first president of the Niobrara Country Club and one of the men instrumental in clearing the land where the course is now situated.
