Clarence "Chief" Dick Grubbs
"Chief" Grubbs, 81 years old, died in his home in Wheatland, CA. Thursday, Jan. 7. Graveside services were held on Monday, Jan. 11 at the Wheatland Cemetery.
A native of California, "Chief" was a veteran of both World War II and the Korean War. After receiving a medical discharge from the Navy in 1955, he attended the Black Hills Teachers College (now Black Hills State College) in Spearfish, S. D., graduating with a B.S. in Education in 1959.
He taught school for two years in Sundance, WY and then spent ten years teaching in the junior high at Kemmerer, WY. Because of increasingly poor health, he and his wife Jewell (Jill) moved to Grand Junction, CO where they resided until the death of their daughter, Kathleen Grubbs Fagnant, in 1975.
They then moved to Wheatland, CA in the fall of 1975, and adopted their granddaughter, Janna Marie.
"Chief" was a member of the Masonic organization and the Veterans of Foreign Wars in Kemmerer, and a member of Grace Episcopal Church and the American Legion in Wheatland, CA.
"Chief" is survived by his granddaughter, Janna; three daughters, Pat Saltwedel, Shela MacDonald of Monterey, and JoAnn Adams of Phoenix, AZ; and by nine grandchildren.
