Edwin Jacob Witzenburger
Edwin Jacob Witzenburger was born in February 2, 1920 in New York City, N.Y., passed away May 30, 2014. He attended the University of Wyoming before receiving an appointment as a Flying Cadet in 1940 in the United States Air Corps. Witzenburger married the former Eleanor Thompson, the daughter of a Wyoming ranching family, in 1941 in Bakersfield, Calif. He retired as a Colonel in 1970, having flown fighter aircraft in China in World War II, as well as the Korean and Vietnam wars. Following his military service, he served as Wyoming's State Auditor; was elected Wyoming State Treasurer, and served as Chairman of the Wyoming Republican Party. The Witzenburgers moved to Rancho Mirage, Calif. in 1986 for reasons of health. He was an active member of both the Sunrise Country Club in Rancho Mirage and the Sunrise Homeowners Association.
He is survived by his two sons, Steve and Bruce; and daughter, Sandra Asmus; 7 grandchildren and 11 great-grandchildren.
A service will be held at 10 am on Monday, June 9, 2014 at Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Palm Desert, Calif. with a reception at the church following the service. In lieu of flowers, the family suggests donations be made to Sacred Heart Catholic Church or Wounded Warriors. Forest Lawn Memorial-Parks & Mortuaries.
