Violet Carnes

Violet died peacefully in her home, where she had lived for almost 60 years, surrounded by love. Violet was born in Lusk, Wyoming, the oldest of six children born to Francis and Ralph Berg. She graduated from St. Joseph's Nursing School in Nebraska in 1948 and headed West with her best friend. Violet married Rex Carnes in 1954. They owned and operated a poultry ranch in Lemon Grove. She also worked two nights a week as a nurse. After her husband died she went to work full time at Grossmont Hospital, where she remained until she retired. She ultimately became the head nurse for the Emergency Room, a position she held for many years. Violet loved nursing and was very involved and served on the Boards of many Nursing Associations. While her two children were growing up, Violet was involved with many PTA Boards, helped at numerous swim meets, and was Team Mom for all their various sports. She also sang in her local Church choir. Once she retired, Violet volunteered at the Lemon Grove Sheriff's Station and at her grandson's school, and helped take care of her two grandchildren. Violet loved attending her grandsons' sporting and school events and enjoyed watching Padres Games, knitting, gardening, reading and painting. Predeceased in death by her husband in 1968, Violet is survived by her daughter Ruth, her husband Paul and their son, Lucas, and her son, Harry, Sheri and their son, Rex. Services, interment and reception was held Saturday, March 22, at 1:00 p.m. in the Rose Chapel at Glen Abbey Memorial Park, 3838 Bonita Road, Bonita, CA. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Sharp Hospice Care, 8881 Fletcher Parkway, Suite 336, La Mesa, CA 91942, whose staff took wonderful care of Violet in her last few days.
