Last Rites Held for Miriam Brott

Funeral service for Mrs. Rufus Brott, 43, of the Prairie Center area who died last Wednesday at Denver was held at the Peet Chapel, Saturday at 2:00 p.m. with the Rev. James E. Davis officiating. Burial was in the Lusk cemetery.

Mrs. J. P. Watson, organist, accompanied Mrs. Dale M. Bardo and Mrs. C. J. Stafford as they sang "Beyond the Sunset" and "Whispering Hope." Casket bearers were: Harry Baldwin, Jr., Jack Wade, Wes Shoults, Alvin Haase, Wayne Childers and Herbert Tadewald.

Miriam Aileen Brott was the daughter of Frances and the late William H. Bonsell of Lusk and was born March 21, 1923, on the Bonsell homestead 15 miles north of Lusk.

Her childhood was spent on the OW ranch where she attended elementary grades at the Bonsell School. She graduated from Lusk High School with the class of '40 and attended the University of Wyoming.

Wishing to help the war effort she went to California to work in a defense plant. After returning to Lusk, she became engaged to Rufus Paul Brott of Manville and they were married in Reno, Nev., August 10, 1946. They lived in Casper until September 1947 when they moved to their present ranch in Prairie Center.

Mrs. Brott loved people and liked working in the numerous community clubs to which she belonged. These included the Ladies Aid at Prairie Center, the Help One Another Club, The American Legion Auxiliary Post No. 1 of Van Tassell, The Does of Elks Club No. 1726 of Torrington, Homemakers Club of Prairie Center and the Friday Night mixed bowling league of Torrington. She was a member of the First Congregational Church of Lusk and the Prairie Center Community Church.

Though ill most of her life, the illness became more severe in the last three years during which time she underwent three major operations. She was taken the last time to Colorado General Hospital on January 10 and was there at the time of her death.

Her father died previously. Survivors include her widower, Rufus, a son, Richard, Shepard Air Force Base, Wichita Falls, Tex.; a daughter, Mary, a junior in High School at Torrington; her mother, Mrs. Frances Bonsell of Lusk; two brothers, Donald Bonsell, St. Paul, Minn.; and Roger Bonsell, Lusk; a sister, Mrs. Homer (Evalou) Paris, Colorado Springs, Colo.
