William Lester Brooks
Lester Brooks Dies April 17 in Torrington
William Lester Brooks, 54, of Torrington and formerly of Manville, died early morning April 17 in the Torrington hospital. Rosary was recited at 7:00 p.m. April 19 and funeral service was at 10:00 a.m. Tuesday in the St. Rose Catholic Church at Torrington. The Rev. Thomas Cleary officiated. Burial was in Valley View Cemetery.
He was born July 14, 1916, in Manville and attended school there. During World War II he joined the Army Air Corps and served in the European Theatre. He received two Silver and two Bronze Stars.
He and Gertrude Kuhn were married in Lusk in 1946. In 1957 the couple moved to Torrington.
Survivors include his widow; three sons, William L. of Hawk Springs, Joseph C. in the U. S. Navy, and Gregory J. of Torrington; seven daughters, Mrs. Don (Marlene) Wilhelm and Mrs. Dick (Leslie) Stovall, both of Othello, Wash., Mrs. Marvin (Gretchen) Moench of Kimball, Mary Etta, Eleanor, Julia and Yvonne all at home; one sister, Mrs. Julia Burket of Winters, Calif., and eight grandchildren.
A memorial has been established to the Heart Fund.
