F. Everette Brooks

Services for F. Everette Brooks were held on Aug. 15, at the Peet Mortuary Chapel in Lusk.

Esther Bozart officiated and the interment was at the Lusk Cemetery.

The music was provided by Rose Kremers, organist and soloist, Mark Lohr. The active bearers were; Gene Walck, Dennis Meier, Virgil Hansen, V. J. Kennedy, Kenneth Freeman and Lewis Landkamer.

Memorials may be sent to Niobrara Senior Citizens Center. Arrangements were made by Peet Mortuary.

F. Everette Brooks was born Aug. 20, 1902, on his grandfather's homestead northwest of Manville. He died Aug. 12, 1984, at Natrona County Memorial Hospital in Casper.

His early life was spent on his parents' homestead southwest of Manville. He rode a horse to Jireh to attend school through the eighth grade and then came to Lusk High School, graduating in 1923. He was a member of the High School Basketball Club which played in state tournaments three of the four years he was a team member.

Brooks established his own ranch south of Jireh and Keeline in1927, and in 1934 drought conditions caused many of his cattle to die and forced him to sell many others.

He began his career in local government under Ed Reeves, County Agent in 1934. In the fall of 1934 he was asked to take the job of Deputy County Treasurer under the District Attorney Shoopman. Two years later, he was elected to that office and stayed at that position for 12 years. During the mid-1940's he was elected to the Board of County Commissioners and spent 38 years as a commissioner through appointment or election. He had also served in the county assessor's office for seven years. Mr. Brooks was a civic minded person and served on numerous county and state boards.

Both his wives came from homestead families. Hazel was born on a homestead north of Manville and Ann was born on a homestead north of Harrison. Brooks was preceded in death by his first wife, Hazel, in 1953, and his second wife, Ann, in 1976. He was also preceded in death by one son, Warren, one brother, one sister and his parents.

Survivors include his son and daughter-in-law, Dean and Betty Brooks of Casper; three grandsons: Ronald Dean Brooks Jr., and Douglas Everette Brooks both of Casper and Steven Dean Brooks of Chatsworth, Calif.; four great-grandsons; one great granddaughter, one sister, Verona Brooks Kelly (Mrs. Warren J.) of Boulder, Colo.; and several nieces and nephews.
