Carl R. Briscoe

Former longtime Niobrara County resident Carl R. Briscoe, 72, died at a Sheridan nursing home last Thursday.

A native of Zion, Ill., Mr. Briscoe moved to Burns, Wyo., with his family in 1912. He attended school at Ft. Collins, Colo., and at the age of 17 he moved to Kenosha, Wis., where he worked for a few years.

He then moved to Montana, where he worked as a hunting guide, and afterwards he joined his grandparents at Keeline, living and working in the Keeline area for about 15 years.

He moved to Lusk in 1948 and was employed at Midwest Hardware Store for about 13 years. He also worked at Thrifty Laundry and delivered the Rocky Mountain News in Lusk. In 1963 he began a carpet laying service here.

Mr. Briscoe moved from Lusk to Dayton, Wyo., in 1970 and continued laying carpet until last July.

He was married to Margaret Mahnke in Casper in 1930.

Mr. Briscoe is survived by his wife, also of Dayton; a daughter, Jeannette Farrington of Kaycee, Wyo.; a son, David Pete Briscoe of Dayton; a brother, Walter Briscoe of Long Beach, Calif.; two sisters, Sylvia Mizer and Myrtle Bickford, both of Kenosha; six grandchildren; and six great-grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by his parents, a sister and a great-granddaughter.

A service was held Tuesday at Peet Mortuary, with the Rev. Frank Blish officiating.

Music was by Edna DeCastro, organist, and Blanche Isbelle, soloist. Song selections were "Just As I Am" and "Beyond the Sunset."

Burial was at Lusk Cemetery.

Pallbearers were John Miles, Randy Moore, Paul Hubbard, Roy and Rusty Briscoe and Dave Stallman.

Honorary pallbearers were Allen Heins, Chuck and James Smith, Lee More, Ray Taylor and Harry Brown.

The family prefers memorials to the Niobrara County Nursing Home.
