Ralph Gordon Sides
Ralph Gordon Sides died at the Veteran's Hospital in Cheyenne, Wyoming on Tuesday, Jan. 15, 2013. Ralph was born April 16, 1927 in Lusk, Wyoming to Clarence and Verda (Walter) Sides. After graduation from Sioux County High School in Harrison, Neb. in 1944, he joined the United States Marine Corps. He married Marlene Story on October 2, 1948. To this union were born Vicky, Monty and Ken.
The majority of his life was spent ranching on the family ranch north of Node, Wyo. He spent many years as a 4-H horse project leader and this was shown by his soft spot for a good horse and young kids. He believed that the outside of a horse was good for the inside of a kid. He was a Fair Board member and was instrumental in building the current 4-H horse barns at the Fair Grounds. He was also a member of the Rural Fire District.
He was preceded in death by his parents; brother Douglas Sides of Lusk, WY; and son Ken Sides of Cheyenne, WY. He is survived by his wife Marlene; sister Beverly Rasmussen of Sioux City, Ia.; sister-in-law Beth Sides of Lusk, Wyo.; son Monty (Terri) Sides of Winchester, Tenn.; daughter Vicky (Brett) West of Lusk, Wyo.; and daughter-in-law Dawn Sides of Cheyenne, Wyo.; nine grandchildren; twelve great-grandchildren; and numerous nieces and nephews.
Cremation has taken place and services were held at the Pier Funeral Home in Lusk, Wyo. on Jan. 19, 2013 at 10 a.m. Donations can be made to the Niobrara 4-H Council horse projects or the charity of your choice.
