Norma Jean Horton Stewart

Norma died Thursday, Nov. 1, 2012, at the Niobrara Health and Life Center in Lusk, Wyo. Born April 16, 1928 in Kansas City, Mo., to David Vance Horton and Georgia Christina Hiser Horton. They moved to Douglas, Wyo. in 1932 and she was raised there, first on the ranch west of town and then in town. She married Charles Powers and they had two daughters. She then married John (Jack) Rhodes and they had one daughter. She then married Howard (Hank) Chandler and they had two sons. She then married Dean Stewart. Dean was a truck driver, so she learned to drive the big rigs and traveled the whole country with him. They would often stop and visit family and friends all over the country. They retired to a small place west of Lusk, Wyo. in the early 1990's. When Dean died in 1997, she moved into a place in Lusk, Wyo. and in 2011 moved into the Niobrara Health and Life Center. Norma loved to sing and it didn't take much urging to get her to sing for you. She had a lovely voice and used it well.

She was predeceased by her husbands, sisters Victoria Pearl (Pearl Mae) Horton in 1923, and Alva Horton in 2000, and brothers-in-law Frank Maguire and John Zaichken. Survived by her children Lois (Dusty) Rhoades of Loves Park, Ill.; Kathy Houchin of Prescott, Ariz.; Denise (Dan) Ransom of LeMars, Ia.; Henry Chandler of Los Angeles, Calif. and Jeff (Vanessa) Chandler of Lusk, Wyo.; three grandsons; Duane (Joann) Rhoades of Boulder Junction, WI, Judson Heller of Congress, Ariz., and William Houchin of Tucson, Ariz.; brothers, Glenn (Millie) Horton of Lansing, NY and Forrest Horton of Casper, Wyo.; sisters Edith Zaichken of Douglas, Wyo. and Lucille Maguire of Douglas, Wyo., and many nieces and nephews and cousins.

Visitation will be held on Friday, Nov. 9, 2012 at 10 AM at First Baptist Church in Lusk, Wyo. Services will be at 11 a.m. Friday with lunch following. Interment will be at Douglas Park Cemetery in Douglas, Wyo. at 2 p.m.

Pier Funeral Home in Lusk is in charge of the funeral arrangements.
