Vivian Britton

Vivian Valentine Britton, 68, 1920 16th St., a partner in former Britton Equipment Company business in Baker, died October 21, 1988, at St. Elizabeth Health Care Center.

Funeral services were held at 1:00 p.m. Tuesday in the Monroe Mortuary Chapel. Pastor Dennis Schmidt of the First Lutheran Church of Baker officiated. Interment followed in Mount Hope Cemetery.

Mrs. Britton was born Vivian Valentine Vondra on June 13, 1920, to James and Mabel Vondra. She was raised on the homestead prairie land of Wyoming and was graduated from Lusk High School in 1937.

On December 31, 1939, she married her childhood friend and companion, Charles Britton in Torrington, Wyoming. Chuck and Vivian moved slowly west and eventually settled in Baker in September of 1945.

Chuck and Les Britton established Britton Equipment Company, a farm machinery and irrigation business. In 1948 Chuck became the sole owner of Britton Equipment Company and Vivian joined him as a partner. She worked in the parts department, business office, and as a receptionist.

She generously served her farmer and ranching friends for 35 years until she and Chuck retired in the mid-1970's. After retirement they enjoyed traveling throughout North America and spending winters with friends in Arizona.

Mrs. Britton was the heart and center of living family that included her husband, Chuck, four children and their spouses who are also her children, and eight grandchildren.

Survivors are her husband, Chuck (1920 16th St., Baker, Ore. 87814), her children and spouses: Evelyn and John Plankinton of Menlo Park, Calif., Howard and Sandee Britton of Baker, Harold and Judy Britton of Hillsboro, and Betty and Patrick Braswell of Baker, grandchildren, Chuck, David and Lisa Britton of Baker, Ed and Emily Braswell of Baker, Bryce and Amy Britton of Hillsboro and Robin Plankinton of Menlo Park.

She is also survived by brother Richard Vondra and Kenneth Vondra, both of Torrington, and sisters Esther Schloatman of Torrington, and Patricia Kuns of Spring, Texas, and numerous nieces and nephews.

She was a sister-in-law of Frank and Alice Podolak of Lusk.

She was preceded in death by a brother, Jim Vondra and sister, Dolly Gheen.
