Gone to Rest

With a smile on her face and a fond, farewell look into the eyes of her affectionate husband and father who were beside her, Mrs. Florence Collins, wife of M.R. Collins and daughter of W. S. Jenks, passed across the river of death at her home in Lusk early Tuesday morning, May 31, 1898.

The announcement of her death was a shock to the entire populace, even her own relatives not being conscious of the fact that lurking death was so near at hand or even dreaming of it entering the family circle. Taken sick about a week previous to her death with a bad cold and other complications, it was not thought that her ailments were serious, but death lurks in the dark and no one can tell upon whom it will lay its blighting hand.

The death of Mrs. Collins seems to be all the more sorrowful when it is known that she was married but two and a half years and besides leaving a husband to mourn over her departure she also leaves a 20 months old girl baby behind in this cold cruel world who has not arrived at that age sufficient to realize what it is to lose a mother. Deceased was but 23 years old at the time of her departure from earth - just in the pink and fullness of womanhood - and it seems too bad that a life so tender and full of vigor would be cut down while so young, thus destroying a bright and happy home that had promise of being a paradise on earth for so many years and such a comforter to the now discouraged and broken-hearted husband.

Mrs. Collins was a model woman, good and kind, a thorough Christian, kind and affection wife and a loving mother. A while before the fatal moment she realized that her time had come and said that she was ready to go. The great loss that has been sustained is so sad that words fail to express the sympathy felt throughout this community, and especially in Lusk where she was known best. She was a woman of high character, an excellent citizen and where personally known was beloved by nearly every one, and her death will be universally mourned.

The funeral took place from the Congregational church yesterday at 10 o'clock a.m., conducted by Rev. Calhoun, who rendered very appropriate services, and the remains were afterwards escorted to the train and shipped to Cheyenne, accompanied by the sorrowing husband, where the will be laid to rest in the Cheyenne cemetery alongside her grandfather. Peace to her ashes.
