Funeral services of Maxine Mae Baker, 75, were held Aug. 19, 1991, at the United Methodist Church in Harrison, Neb. Graveside services were held Aug. 20 at Belvidere, Cemetery in Turin, Iowa.
Baker was born May 10, 1916, in Danbury, Iowa, the second of five children of George and Edna Zediker. She was raised and educated in and around Castana, Iowa. She graduated from high school at age 16. She died Aug. 15, 1991 at Ponderosa Villa in Crawford, Neb.
She met the late William B. Baker when she was 17 and they married in 1934. Maxine and Bill enjoyed nearly 57 years of married life. They had three children; Patricia Ann, Bill Dean, and Bonnie Lynn.
The couple moved back and forth between a farm in Monona County Iowa and a ranch in Harrison and spent five years in California before deciding to settle permanently in Harrison in 1977 when they purchased the Unitt house. Besides farming and ranching they owned and operated the Arlington Hotel in Mapleton, Iowa, for several years, in the mid 1960's.
Maxine was the ultimate homemaker, who enjoyed all aspects of making a house a home. She also loved working in her flower and vegetable garden. She was a sports enthusiast who liked playing softball when she was younger and bowling and pitching horseshoes. She and Bill belonged to several card clubs, including pinochle and bridge. They both appreciated socializing and entertaining with their many friends.
She was a member of the United Methodist Church of Harrison, and the afternoon circle of the United Methodist Women.
She leaves to mourn her passing her daughter Patricia Ann and her husband, Ken Bansemer of Cameron Park, Calif. And their four children; grandsons David and his wife Valerie and James and his wife Deanna; great grandchildren, Kristi, Kenton and Chase; granddaughter Sheri and grandson John; son, Bill Baker and his wife Charlene of Harrison and their three children; granddaughter Barbara and grandsons Michael and Neil; her daughter Bonnie Baker of Glendale, Ariz.; a sister Yvonne McDonald of Mapleton, Iowa; two brothers; Arnold Zediker of Sioux City, Iowa and George Zediker of Burlington, Wash. and many relatives and friends.
She was preceded in death by her husband, William, on April 18, 1991 and a brother, Clark Zediker of Mapleton, Iowa.
