Brek was born February 1, 1959 in Grand Junction, Colorado to Christy Gene and Marcile Elaine (Amsberry) Brost. He spent the majority of his childhood in Rio de Janiero, Brazil. It was there, at age 13, that he accepted Jesus as his Savior and Lord. It was also in Brazil that he learned to play soccer and even received the signatures of World Cup soccer players, including Pele. Brek graduated from Bear Creek High School in Denver, Colorado in 1977. He attended Colorado State University and received his bachelor's degree in Agriculture Economics. Brek was an avid soccer player throughout his entire life, earning Most Valuable Player his senior year of high school. Brek was instrumental in starting Bear Creek's soccer program and helping kick start a traveling team in Alliance. He was an accomplished soccer player and even tried out for a professional team. Brek then turned to coaching; he truly enjoyed coaching young kids and inspiring them, both on the field and in their spiritual lives. Brek was united in marriage with Kim James on August 15, 1987. They resided in Alliance, Nebraska. Brek had always dreamed of running a cattle operation and was in pursuit of this at the time of his diagnosis with Lou Gehrig's Disease in 1988. At the time of his diagnosis he was given 3 to 5 years to live. He continued to astonish medical professionals as he continued battling the disease with the help of his famly and his Savior. Before he lost the use of his arms he enjoyed playing the guitar, singing, and writing songs. Throughout the time of his illness, Brek never once complained about his situation. He always had a great sense of humor and enjoyed making others laugh. Many of his friends can remember spending hours watching funny videos and telling jokes. He began writing "Brek's Brief's" in 2000 in order to encourage those around him in their daily lives. Some of his close friends are now compiling many of his "Brief's" into a book. He has always been an avid card player; even without looking at his hand he could somehow win. Brek is now residing in heaven with his beloved Lord and others that have passed before him. Brek was specific in requesting that every one know where he is now. He wanted to make sure that no one mourned his death as he is in the greatest place. Brek wanted no glory for his accomplishments, but all glory given to his Savior, Jesus Christ.

Brek is survived by his beloved wife Kim of Morrill, children Shane (Rachel) Barry of Houston, Texas, Shanna (Dale) Bennett of Martin, South Carolina, Keah (Brady) Cross of Harrisburg, Neb., grandchildren Tyler, Ethan, and Cody Bennett and Jack and Jill Barry, parents Christy and Marcile Brost, siblings Kristy(Dennis) Thurow, Corine (Tom) Sweeney, Carmen (Charles) Mulloy, Karla (Chuck) Blackler, mother-in-law Mary (Hales) James, in-law David James and special friends Jerry and Jackie Schmidt. He is also survived by many precious nephews, nieces, cousins, aunts and uncles, and friends.

Brek is preceded in death by his brother-in-law Phillip James, sister-in-law Nina James, and father-in-law Lee James and niece Megan Thurow.

The family would like to thank all of the friends and family for their years of support and encouragement.
