August Buchholz, former Niobrara county farmer and rancher, died at his home in Lander, Wednesday afternoon, Sept. 26.

The remains will be brought to Lusk and funeral services will be conducted from the Peet Chapel at two o'clock Sunday afternoon at the Chapel, with interment in the Lusk cemetery.

Mr. Buchholz was a very successful farmer when he resided here and was among the first in the county to raise watermelons and cantaloupes for the market.

He moved with his family to Lander some ten years ago, because that vicinity is more favorable for extensive farming and the raising of fruits.

Last Rites Held For August Buchholz

Funeral services for August Buchholz were conducted from the Peet Chapel on Sunday afternoon at 2:00 o'clock. Mr. Buchholz was a former resident of this community and old-time friends gathered to pay their last respects.

Rev. Ezra Duncan, pastor of the First Baptist Church of Lusk, officiated at the service. Two songs, "Abide With Me" and "In the Sweet Bye and Bye" were sung by Rev. and Mrs. Le LaCheur, with Mrs. J. P. Watson presiding at the organ.

The casket bearers were Claris A. David, John Wasserburger, Henry Wasserburger, Leonard McCullough, Ray DeGering and Dudley Field.

Interment was made in the Lusk Cemetery beside the grave of his mother, who passed away twenty years ago.

August Buchholz was born January 25, 1888, in Rumania, and in 1904 came to Eastern South Dakota, but moved to the Lusk area in 1907, where he was engaged in ranching and farming.

He was married to Miss Winnie Galbreath in July, 1916, and they continued to make their home here until 1936, when the family moved to Riverton and later to Dubois. It was while making their home in Dubois that Mrs. Buchholz passed away in 1939. Two infant daughters also preceded him in death.

In January, 1944, Mr. Buchholz was married to Miss Frances Howard, and the same year they moved to Sidney, Neb., where they lived until failing health compelled Mr. Buchholz to seek a lower altitude. they were en route to the West Coast when it became necessary for him to enter a hospital for treatment.

He died at Bishop Randall Hospital in Lander, Sept. 25, 1945. Besides his wife, he is survived by a son, Norris L. Buchholz, of Lander, Wyo; three daughters, Mrs. Mary Sullivan, Huntley, Wyo; Mrs. Beulah Stewart, Canby, Ore.; Mrs. Winnie Pearson, Riverton, Wyo.; two grandsons, August and Norris Sullivan; two sisters, Mrs. Pauline Blumhagen, Anamoose, N. D., and Mrs. Rose Cleverley, Idaho Falls, Idaho, and a half-brother, John Jassman, of Lusk, besides numerous nieces and nephews.

Relatives here to attend the funeral services for Mr. Buchholz included Mrs. Frances Buchholz and Norris Buchholz of Lander, Mr. and Mrs. DeWayne Sullivan of Huntley, Wyo., and Mrs. John Stewart, Canby, Ore.
