MARGARET WHELAN LAID AT REST JIREH CEMETERY SATURDAY

Funeral services for Mrs. Margaret Whelan, 82, were held in Keeline on Saturday, Jan. 21st and burial was made in the Jireh cemetery.

Mrs. Margaret Whelan, mother of C. A. Whelan of Lusk, passed away Wednesday evening, Jan. 18th at the Manring Home where she had been receiving medical care, following a paralytic stroke seven weeks previous.

Mrs. Wheland and her husband and family were among the early settlers of the Jireh community. This little town and surrounding country was started and settled up by an unusually fine class of citizens. An educated and religious people who founded a college which thrived for a number of years, and many of the men and women of this part of the state today received their education in the Jireh College.

Mrs. Whelan's husband passed away about then years ago at Jireh and most of the time since then Mrs. Whelan has made her home with Mr. and Mrs. C. A. Whelan of Lusk. During the time she has resided in Lusk she has made many friends who sincerely regret her passing.

The funeral arrangements were in charge of the Peet Mortuary and the remains, accompanied by a cortege of relatives and friends, were taken to Keeline Saturday afternoon where funeral services were held from the Keeline church at two o'clock. The Rev. Curtis Winkle of Lingle officiated at the services, he being a former pastor of a church which Mrs. Whelan attended.

Music was furnished by Mrs. O. M. Rasmusen, Mrs. Roy Elders, Mrs. Counch, Mrs. Cox, Mrs. Lavonne Pfeifer, C. W. Pfeifer, F B. Kuns, and Mr. and Mrs. Roy Elders. Some special numbers were also rendered by Mrs. O. M. Rasmusen and F. B. Kuns.

The officiating pall bearers were D. A. Shoopman, Lou Bass, Theron Grant, C. W. Pfeifer, John Hill and E. E. Fullerton. The honorary pall bearers were Melvin Crawford, Frank Kelly, H. B. Card and Jake Salak.

Burial was made in the Jireh cemetery and she was laid to rest beside her husband.

Margaret Wardlemann was born in Ripley County, Indiana across the line from the city of Cincinnati, Ohio, September 8, 1856, the daughter of Fred and Anna Bradnt Wardlemann, and departed this life January 18, 1939 at Lusk, Wyoming. Age 82 years, 4 months and 10 days.

Her parents moved to Spencer County, Indiana when she was about three years of age. Here she grew to womanhood. She was united in marriage to William J. Whelan, January 12, 1877 at Buffaloville, Indiana. The marriage ceremony was performed by Rev. O. S. Bailey in a house in which a great part of the lumber was sawed with a rep-saw by the immortal Lincoln.

To this union were born nine children, four of whom survive. Fred H. of New Harmony, Ind.; William J., Jr. of Fort Collins, Colo.; C.A. of Lusk, Wyo. and Elsie A. Reed of Grand Junction, Colo.

After a few years residence in Spencer and Dubois Counties the family moved in 1881 to Posey County and located on a farm near Stewartsville, Ind. She united with the Bethsaida Christian church of this community, where she remained a devout christian and faithful worker during her entire residence.

She, with her family, moved to Wyoming in April, 1909 and located on a homestead 1 1/2 miles south of Keeline where she resided until her husband passed away in February, 1928. Upon taking residence in the Jireh community she united with the Christian church of Jireh and remained a member of that church during its entire existance and was ever a faithful attendant and sincere supporter in all its activities. It is doubtful if there was ever a more sincere or devout believer in the principals and ideals upon which this community was founded.

Besides her four surviving children there are left to mourn her passing two sisters: Ann Heins of Keeline, Wyo.; Addie Sanders of New Harmony, Ind.; 21 grandchildren; a number of great grandchildren and a host of friends and neighbors.

A more faithful Christian was seldom found -
A truer Friend no one know -
A better Mother never lived.
