WELL-KNOWN NIOBRARA COUNTY STOCKMAN SUCCUMBS TO BRIEF ILLNESS
John Storrie, 68, a Wyoming resident for forty years, died last night at the home of Mrs. Charles Rugg, where he with his wife and son, Walter, were making their temporary home prior to moving to their ranch near Hat creek. Death came after an illness of less than twelve hours, and was due to a complication of diseases, the result of old age. While death was sudden, it was not unexpected, for he had been a sufferer for many years.
John Storrie was born October 12, 1846, in Edinburg, Scotland. He was educated in Edinburgh university and for several years after his graduation therefrom engaged in the produce business at Edinburgh. In 1876 he came to the United States and soon went to Texas. There he familiarized himself with the stock business and in 1879 moved to Cheyenne. Here he entered the employ of the Swan Land & Cattle company, with which firm he remained until 1883, when he settled on Hat creek. He engaged in stock raising and the mercantile business and built up a fine ranch property. At one time his herds of Hereford thoroughbreds aggregated 1,500 head.
In 1880 Mr. Storrie married Miss Mary L. Pease, daughter of Walter D. Pease of Cheyenne, who survives him. But one child, the son Walter, was born of this union.
Several years ago Mr. Storrie and his family came to Cheyenne to reside, but recently they decided to return to the ranch. They had arranged to do so, even having shipped their furniture when his unexpected death occured.
Besides his wife and son, he is survived by a sister, Mrs. A. Falconer of Hat Creek. The funeral will be held at the Gleason chapel tomorrow afternoon at 3:30 o'clock, Rev. L. C. Hills conducting the service.
