W. J. Tooley, 83, Dies Suddenly
William J. Tooley, well known Lusk man, died at 12:10 Sunday a.m., October 20, after having been taken ill the previous afternoon while in the Lusk Exchange store.
Mr. Tooley came to Lusk during the first oil boom of 1918, where he engaged in the real estate business, which line of occupation he has continued to follow until the time of his death, and in spite of his nearly 83 years, was alert and active.
He was born January 17, 1862, and part of his life was spent in Iowa, where he was engaged in farming. He then moved to Nebraska and later to Wyoming.
Four sons and three daughters were born to Mr. and Mrs. Tooley. His wife and two sons and one daughter have preceded him in death.
Funeral services were held in the Peet Chapel on Tuesday afternoon with W. A. Sherk of the Church of God presiding. The "Old Rugged Cross" and "Rock of Ages" were sung by the Misses Anita Vargason and Phyllis Johns, accompanied by Mrs. J. P. Watson.
The remains were taken to Crawford, Neb., following the service, from which point they were shipped by train to Doniphan, Neb., where his wife and three children are buried.
His daughter, Mrs. D. M. Sprawls of Phoenix, Arizona, came to attend the service and accompany the remains to their last resting place.
Other survivors are another daughter, Miss Neoma Tooley, of Hastings, Neb., and two sons, Vern Tooley of San Diego, Calif., and Simon Tooley of Hastings, Neb.
