Virgil Martin Jr. Electrocuted in Colorado Friday

Virgil W. Martin Jr., 27, son of Mr. and Mrs. Virgil Martin Sr., of Lusk, was electrocuted at 2:30 p.m. Friday eight miles from Holyoke, Colo. when the truck boom he was operating hit a 72,000 volt line.

He was standing on the ground raising the boom and evidently failed to notice the line and raised the boom into the line. A fellow workman, Harold Greeley, attempted mouth-to-mouth respiration but it was useless. The men were working for a water well drilling firm.

Funeral services were held from the Peet Chapel in Lusk Tuesday afternoon with the Rev. Leroy Kellerman of St. Paul's Lutheran Church officiating. Mrs. Emerson Bonner and Mrs. Lyle Eddy, accompanied by Mrs. J. P. Watson on the organ, sang "The Old Rugged Cross", "What a Friend" and "In the Garden".

Casket bearers were: Eldon Alexander, Joe Andrews, Bud Kness, Don Wallace, Wendel Nighswonger, Fred Chalk, C. E. Marvin, Herb Klindt.

Virgil Warren Martin Jr. was born in Crawford and moved to Lusk with his family when a small child. He served four years in the Navy where he learned sheet metal work.

Besides his parents survivors include two brothers, James of Oxnard, Calif., and William of Lusk; three sisters, Mrs. Kenneth Carlisle of Ossining, N.Y., Verda Sue and Victoria of Lusk; two grandmothers, Mrs. Florence Martin of Worland, Wyo., and Mrs. August James of Gering, Nebr.

Burial was in the Lusk Cemetery.
