Jennie Howes

In Loving Memory

The whole community was shocked and plunged into the deepest grief when it was learned that on Sunday, Christmas morning, about 5:30 the spirit of Mrs. Jennie Hamilton Howes had passed away from earth. Of a sweet, loving, gentle disposition, she brought sunshine wherever she went and her bright smile will be missed by the many friends who knew her, and her kind and hopeful words will henceforth meet with no response. Yet her memory will live forever in the hearts that were touched by her sweet and loving influence.

She was born in Richmond, Mo., January 1, 1883, and on New Years, had she lived, would have been 28 years old. the family moved to Kansas City and from there she came to Wyoming five years ago. She was married in Buffalo to Geo. H. Howes and in 1909 they came to make their home in Lusk.

Besides her husband, her father, mother, brother and three sisters survive her and mourn her loss.

Funeral services were held at the Congregational church and largely attended. Rev. R. R. Shoemaker of Douglas preached the funeral sermon and performed the last simple rites at the grave. Out of respect and sympathy for Brother Howes, the Masonic Fraternity attended the funeral in a body. There were many beautiful floral pieces and wreaths and sprays of flowers, tokens of the Masons and other friends.

Mrs. H. M. Hamilton of Kansas City, Mrs. Howes' mother, has been with her daughter for the last two or three weeks and her father arrived Tuesday as also Mr. Howes' father and brother to attend the funeral.

Mrs. Howes was a member of the Lusk reading Club and at the time of her demise was treasurer of that organization. The following resolution passed at a special meeting of that body shows the esteem in which she was held by her sister members:

Resolutions of Lusk Reading Club

WHEREAS, the view of the loss we have sustained by the decease of our friend, member and officer, Jennie Howes, and of the still heavier loss sustained by those who are nearest and dearest to her; therefore be it

RESOLVED, that it is but a just tribute to the memory of the departed to say that in regretting her removal from our midst we mourn for one who was, in every way, worthy of our respect and regard.

RESOLVED, that this heartfelt testimonial of our sympathy and sorrow be given to the bereaved husband and parents and that a copy of these resolutions be sent to each of the local papers.
