Mark Val Dez, Former Resident, Dies Nov. 23
A former County resident, Mark Val Dez, age 59, died in the Veterans Hospital in Hot Springs Nov. 23. Funeral services were conducted in the McColley Funeral Home of Newcastle the following Friday with military rites at the graveside.
Mr. Val Dez was born Nov. 28, 1896, on a ranch near Harrison. He later moved to Snyder Creek in Niobrara County, where he resided for a number of years. He served with the United States Army in World War I and had overseas duty. For the past few years Mr. and Mrs. Val Dez resided on a ranch on Salt Creek.
He married Margaret King of Evanston, Ill. in 1923 at Hot Springs. To this union were born three children.
Survivors include his wife, Margaret; one son, Alan; two daughters, Mrs. James Copeland, Mrs. Bob Steiling, both of of Newcastle, a sister, Mrs. Charles Morgan of Denver; one brother, Leo Val Dez of Coquille, Ore.; and his mother, Mrs. Goodson Lacy of Coquille, Ore.
