Funeral Service Was Held Saturday for Life-time Niobrara Resident

Funeral service for John H. Christian, 52, was held Saturday at 2:00 p.m. at the Peet Chapel. He died instantly of a gun shot wound early last Thursday morning at his ranch home east of Lusk.

Just recently Mr. Christian (left in the photo) was elected to Land Bank Stockholders Advisory Committee. He and Paul Ogier and Charles Boydston, all directors of the Federal Land Bank Association, were elected during the regional meeting of the association held at Rapid City.

Mr. Christian was vice president of the Torrington FLBA board of Directors and would have represented borrowers in Wyoming.

The Rev. Robert Boutwell conducted the funeral service with Mrs. A. F. DeCastro organist. Soloist, Mrs. Hobart Cockerham, sang "How Great Thou Art" and "Goodnight and Goodmorning".

Casket bearers were Russ Thompson, Cody Thompson, S. E. West, Larry Lund, Jack Larson, Frank Kuhn, Hobart Cockerham and Ralph Sides. Burial was in the Lusk Cemetery.

John B. Christian was born Aug. 19, 1922, at Hat Creek the son of James William and Clara Nell Zumbrunnen Christian. He attended grade school at Indian Creek and Lusk and high school in Lusk.

He moved to the ranch 15 miles east of Lusk in 1942. For many years he raised Black Angus cattle and was instrumental in water development for the state. He was one of the first with circle irrigation for pasture in Niobrara County.

He was married to Pat Smith August 5, 1944. He was a member of the Congregational Church, a member and past Exalted Ruler BPOB #1797 and District Deputy Grand Exalted Ruler for Wyoming South of the Elks.

Survivors include his wife Pat; his mother, Mrs. Nellie Christian; one son, Dr. Chris Christian, Nampa, Idaho; one daughter, Mikell, Nampa, Idaho; 4 brothers George, Frank and Charles, Lusk, and Dr. Bruce Christian, Vernal Utah; two sisters, Blanche Schaefer, Cheyenne and Edith Culver, Lusk; and three grandchildren
