Frank Church

Frank Church was born in Montreal, Canada, May 7, 1844, and died at his home in Kirtley, Wyoming, February 26, 1913. In 1855 he came with his parents to New Hampshire and a few years later to Wisconsin. In 1864 he enlisted and was in active service for 10 months, when he got an honorable discharge. In 1867 he was united in marriage to Ruth Rood and six children were born to them, two dying in infancy. The other four with their mother are left to mourn the loss of a kind husband and loving father.

Grandpa Church (as we all called him) has been a great sufferer for several years; about a week ago he had a stroke of paralysis, after which he was entirely helpless. All that loving hands could do was done but he slowly grew weaker until last Wednesday, just as the sun was setting, his spirit took its flight.

The funeral was held at the hall Sunday afternoon, Rev. J. D. Clarke an old friend of the family, officiating. That he was loved and respected by all was made manifest by the large attendance and by the many and beautiful flowers which covered the casket. His favorite hymns were sung, "Softly and tenderly Jesus is calling," "Safe in the arms of Jesus" and "God be with you till we meet again." All his children and grandchildren were present. The following pall-bearers bore the remains to rest in Pleasant Ridge cemetery; J. J. ZumBrunnen, Sam Leeling, L. L. Wilson, August Koester, Howard Shatto and Lial Nicodemus.
