Polly J. Boner

Funeral service for Polly J. Boner, age 80, was held Saturday, Jan. 2, 2010 at 2 p.m. at the Congregational Church in Lusk, Wyo. Polly had undergone open heart surgery in 2001 and was able to enjoy a reasonable quality of life until she faced some major challenges this past year. She passed away at the Niobrara Health and Life Center in Lusk on Monday, Dec. 28, 2009.

Juanita Pauline "Polly" Boner was born March 19, 1929 in Ozark, Ark.

On December 19, 1951 she married the love of her life, Ed Boner. Sharing in their lives on the Boner Ranch north of Lusk they raised daughters Jessie, Charlene, and Karen and a son Edgar Jordan "Jordy". Her children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren were her life. She involved herself in the community by being a charter member of the county Cow Belles and taught her children to also be involved in the community, supporting them in multiple school activities, the county 4-H club, church activities, and involving the entire family in the Masonic teachings of Job's Daughters and Order of Eastern Star. She was also a Past President of Lusk Does Drove #64.

After the death of their son, Jordy, in 1976, Polly obtained her Ph.D. in Psychology, serving as a counselor at the Wyoming Women's Center in Lusk. She was instrumental in spearheading and organizing the Helpmate Crisis Center in Lusk and remained a board member for 25 plus years. She was also a devoted member on the board of trustees for the Congregational Church. Polly was well known for going above and beyond the call of duty to fight for a cause she truly believed in. Polly always directed her energies to guiding and helping people in need. She was loved by many and her presence will be greatly missed.

Mrs. Boner is survived by her husband, Ed, with whom she celebrated 58 memorable years of marriage. She is also survived by daughters Jessie Walduck (Philip) of Lusk, Charlene Boner of Cheyenne, Wyo., Karen Boner of Elk Grove, Calif., and one surviving brother, Richard Nichols, of Missouri. She was especially proud of being "Grammy" to her four grandchildren: Shannon Lauer of Santee, Cali., Kirk Haas (Stephanie) of LaGrange, Wyo., Jess Ketcham (Kelly) of Cheyenne, Wyo., and Kevin Haas (Jamie) of Mitchell, Nebr.; five great-grandchildren: Chloe, Luke & Liam Haas of LaGrange and Jace & Jackson Ketcham of Cheyenne. She was preceded in death by her son Jordy Boner, grandson Dustin Lauer, brother Frank Nichols, and nephew Ed Honea.

Officiant was Pastor Tom Strock of Douglas, Wyo., with Randy Corley of Silverdale, Wash. delivering her eulogy. Pastor Mark Lohr's heartfelt message was delivered by Elaine Griffith, Lusk, as he was unable to attend. Music was provided by Laurie and J.D. Wasserburger, singing "The Lord's Prayer" and "Nearer My God to Thee" accompanied by Phyllis Hahn, Lusk. Pallbearers were Kirk Haas, Jess Ketcham, Kevin Haas, Ron Matthews, Dave Lingelbach, and Virgil Ningen. Interment was in the Lusk Cemetery.

Memorials may be made to the Helpmate Crisis Center and Congregational Church of Lusk, or the donor's choice in memory of Polly. Pier Funeral Home in Lusk was in charge of the arrangements.
