Vernon R. (Bunny) Chard

Services were held for Vernon R. (Bunny) Chard, 73, Monday, Aug. 20 at Peet Mortuary Chapel with Mark Lohr officiating. Burial followed in the Bodark Cemetery north of Harrison, Neb.

Mr. Chard died Thursday evening at Niobrara County Memorial Hospital. He was born Nov. 2, 1910 in Crawford, Neb., the son of Oscar and Rosabelle Chard. He and his wife grew up four miles from each other and both attended school at Indian Creek.

Mr. Chard's mother died when he was 10, and he lived with his grandparents and was on his own from then on. He married Margaret L. Jordan on Oct. 9, 1933, in Ardmore, S. Dak. He worked on various ranches until they began ranching on their own in 1935. In 1941, the Chards purchased the ranch that his father had homesteaded.

Mr. Chard was a lifetime resident of the Indian Creek community. He loved children and helped raise several of his nieces and nephews. He was one of the original stockholders in the Stockman's Bank, now the First Wyoming Bank.

He was active in the "Legend of the Rawhide" pageant and the Historical Society. He was a member of the Elks Lodge and the Wyoming Stockgrower's Association. He and his wife celebrated their golden wedding anniversary just last year.

Survivors include his wife Margaret; a brother, Mike Chard of Lusk and numerous nieces, nephews and cousins.

For those who wish, donations to the Historical Society Tank Fund or the American Cancer Society will be appreciated by the family.

Organist Rose Kremers accompanied soloist Mark Lohr with "One Day At A Time" ," Blue Skirt Waltz", and "I'll Remember You, In My Prayers".

Active pallbearers were Melvin Thayer, Dale Jordan, Dick Tollman, Jack Sankey, Keith Tetem, Dural Holtz, John Megan and Kendy Rising.
