Franklin Stevens Dies in Sheridan
Franklin E. Stevens, 88, former resident of the Keeline Community, died Saturday in Sheridan following a stroke. He had been making his home with a daughter, Mrs. Guy Brown in Sheridan. Funeral services were held Wednesday afternoon from Peet Chapel with Rev. Frank Bozart officiating. Burial was in the Jireh Cemetery.
Mrs. Otha B. Holcomb and Mrs. A. F. DeCastro sang "When the Roll is Called Up Yonder" and "Nearer My God to Thee." Mrs. J. P. Watson was organist.
Pallbearers were Frank Mahnke, Leo Heins, Mick Coen, Lavonne Pfeifer, LeGrande Lee and Jame Ringer.
Franklin Evan Stevens was born April 17, 1870 in Kosicusko County, Ind., the son of Herman and Julia Stevens.
He married Ollie M. Barnhart January 16, 1897. In 1911 they located on a homestead three miles southeast of Keeline which he farmed until 1921. He then worked for the Northwestern Railroad for 22 years, retiring in 1943 at the age of 73. He was a member of the Christian Church and B.A.R.E., a railmans organization.
He is survived by three daughters, Mrs. Guy Brown, Sheridan, Mrs. Lawrence Tucker, Lusk and Mrs. William Geissler, Spokane, Wash.; five sons, Wayne Stevens, Vancouver, Wash., Burr Stevens, Casper, Raymond Stevens, Marysville, Mich., Hubert Stevens, Ogden, Utah and Myron Stevens, Takeetna, Alaska. Three infant duaghters and two sons previously died.
