Leona Chambers
Leona Chambers died in Colo.
Mrs. Frank (Leona B.) Chambers, member of a Niobrara County pioneer family, was interred here Tuesday afternoon following a memorial service at Peet Mortuary Chapel. Mrs. Chambers died Saturday at her home in Boulder, Colo.
She was born here July 9, 1894, the daughter of Phillip and Jennie (Lorentz) Barber who homesteaded here in 1890. She received her education in the Lusk schools, and Oct. 1, 1919, became the bride of Frank Chambers.
Mr. and Mrs. Chamber lived in Lusk until 1936. During their years here he served as Niobrara County clerk and she assisted in the clerk's office.
Mrs. Chambers was a member of the Lusk Congregational Church, a 50-year member and past matron of the Order of Eastern Star, and a charter member of the Lusk P.E.O. Chapter and a member of Chapter CB in Boulder.
From Lusk, Mr. and Mrs. Chambers went to Cheyenne where he served as state auditor. In 1944 they moved to Denver where they owned and operated the Wellington Hotel, and from there went to Grand Junction and owned and operated the Frontier Motor Lodge. They moved to Boulder in 1964.
The Rev. Frank Blish, Lusk, officiated at the 2:00 p.m. memorial here Tuesday. Minerva Watson was organist and Marilyn Cockreham sang "How Great Thou Art."
Interment was in the Lusk Cemetery. Pallbearers were Bill Jack, Casper; Howard Weymouth, Paul Percival, Walt Fernau, Dave Lorenzen and Everette Brooks, all of Lusk.
Honorary bearers were James Ryan, Bob Darrow and Fred Willson, all of Denver; C. E. Marvin, Menno Kaan, Roy Chamberlain, Bill Miller and Don Taylor, Lusk.
