Child Killed in Main Street Accident Fri.

Dennis Cagle, 2-year and 10-month old son of Billy Jack and Eva Mae Cagle, died in the Niobrara Memorial Hospital Friday afternoon a half hour after being hit by an auto driven by Mrs. Roy Richardson.

A coroner's jury which held a hearing later the same afternoon reported "death by an unavoidable accident". J.P. Costlow, Rev. Clyde Hampton, and Otto H. Klemke composed the jury.

CROSSING STREET
Evidently the child was on the west side of the street and decided to cross to the east side. He darted out from between parked cars and Mrs. Richardson said she did not even see him or realize she had hit anything until feeling the impact.

Mrs. Stanley Johnson, standing in front of the Willard Drug, heard the child scream and ran to the street and picked him up and took him to the doctor's office over the store. Informed there that the doctor would be at the Memorial Hospital she and Mrs. Richardson rushed the boy there. Death was attributed to a basal skull fracture.

CAR TRAVELING SLOWLY
According to testimony at the coroner's inquest, the Richardson car was traveling between 15 and 20 miles an hour. Jim McGinnis, though not seeing the impact, was nearby and estimated the speed at 20 MPH. The car was stopped within five feet of the boy.

Evidently no one saw the car strike the boy though main street was busy at the time. Those heard at the inquest were Sheriff Ben F. Brown, Patrolman M. S. Jordan, Mrs. Johnson, Mrs. Richardson, Mrs. Cagle, Mr. McGinnis and Dr. O. E. Torkelson.

The fatality brought Wyoming's total to 103. However at the Herald press time the total was 104.

FUNERAL SERVICES TUES.
Funeral services for Dennis Jack Cagle, born Oct. 2, 1950, were held in the chapel of the Peet Mortuary Tuesday afternoon with the Rev. Raymond Hoffman, officiating. Mrs. A. F. DeCastro and Mrs. Emmerson Bonner sang "Safe in the Arms of Jesus," "This World Is Not My Home," and "Beckoning Hands."

The casketbearers were Ronald Miller, Ronald Johnson, Larry Williams, Johnny Blackmore, and Butch Porter. Mrs. J. P. Watson was the organist.

Burial was made in the Lusk Cemetery.
