Memorial services for Hugh Budette Golden, 77, were held at 10 a.m. Friday, March 27, 2009 at the Colyer Funeral Home Chapel with Reverend Tom Kittleman officiating. Cremation has taken place and burial followed the service in the Valley View Cemetery. Hugh died at the Cheyenne Medical Center in Cheyenne, Wyoming on March 22, 2009.
Hugh was born July 1, 1931 in Crawford, Nebraska the son of Hugh and Jessie (Church) Golden. He grew up in various places in Wyoming, Utah, and California. After school he operated an ARCO service station in Apple Valley, Calif. from 1962 until 1978. He married Betty Lou Erlewine on Aug. 27, 1950 in Torrington, Wyo. In 1979 they moved to Harrison, Neb. and then to Yoder, Wyo., where he was a ditch rider for the Goshen Irrigation District for ten years. He worked at the Pamida store in Torrington for four years before he retired.
Hugh loved music and could play most any instrument, mainly guitar. He played in two bands, "The Country Ramblers" and "Golden Oldies." They played at nursing homes, veteran's homes and at Jamborees. He was a member of the South Goshen Presbyterian Church.
Hugh is survived by his wife Betty of Torrington; three sisters, Stella Pugsley of Torrington, Arlene Pugsley of Grants Pass, Oregon, and Leota Odle of St. George, Utah; four grandchildren; and six great grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his parents; a son Hugh Byron Golden; a daughter Barbara Coull; one granddaughter Karry Pollock; and two brothers Chester Golden and William Powell.
Memorials may be made to either the American Cancer Society or the American Heart Association. Arrangements are under the direction of the Colyer Funeral Home and friends may send condolences to the family at www.colyerfuneralhome.com.
