Kathryn Frances Lund

A private funeral service for Kathryn Frances Lund, 83, was held at 10 a.m. on Oct. 22 in Spearfish. S.D., at the Carlsen/Aldinger Funeral Home with the Rev. Delbert Dick of Wheatland officiating. Graveside services followed at the Lusk Cemetery at 3:30 p.m. the same day.

She was born Dec. 25, 1920, in Morton, Ill., to Albert and Luella Walter. Her mother died during her senior year of high school and she and her younger brother and sister moved to Node, shortly after graduation to live with their aunt, Emma Walter. Her father, Albert, passed away two years later.

She married Charles Lund Jr. on Feb. 2. 1942 and they resided on the family ranch northeast of Node until 1911 when they moved to Lusk, where she lived until his death in 1996. Kathryn then moved to the Redwood Apartment Complex in Spearfish, S.D., until declining health necessitated her move to Edgewood Vista Assisted Living Facility in Feb., 2004. She always loved the scenic beauty and grandeur of the Black Hills.

Kathryn was a resourceful homemaker and a tender and nurturing wife and mother. She was committed to family and a life-long friend to many. She was noted for her joyful spirit and embracing smile that welcomed all she met. For years she was an active 4-H leader and was a member of the Node Homemakers until she left Lusk. She was a charter member of the American Missionary Fellowship Church at the Node Sunday School. She was an avid reader of novels, but the Bible was undoubtedly her favorite study.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Charles, her mother, father and two brothers, Alfred and Warren Walter. Survivors include a sister, Joyce Kilmer and her husband Bill, of Riverton; a sister-in-law, Phyllis Walter (widow of Warren), of Rozelle; a son, Larry Lund and his wife, MaryJo, of Rawlins; daughter, Brenda Pfister and her husband, Bob, of Lusk and daughter Kathy Kellogg and her husband, Mike, of Spearfish, S.D.; 10 grandchildren, 10 great grandchildren, three nephews and one niece.

For those who wish, the family suggests memorials may be given to the Lusk-Niobrara Ambulance Service.
