Del Bigelow of Harrison Dies at Chadron Sunday

Del Bigelow, 61, well-known Hereford breeder of near Harrison, Nebr., died at the Chadron Municipal Hospital Sunday just after noon. He had been at the hospital for the past month, but had been in failing health for several years.

Funeral services were held from the Methodist Church in Harrison Tuesday afternoon.

Mr. Bigelow had lived in the Harrison community all of his life, the son of a pioneer family that came to that area in the early 1800's. He homesteaded eight miles northwest of Harrison as a young man and built a ranch and registered Hereford business of considerable importance. He has been a member of the Central Hereford Association with sales at Lusk since it was organized.

Surviving besides his wife are five children, Lucille Bigelow, Scottsbluff, Nebr.; Mrs. Ione Lewis, Lusk; Gene Bigelow, Denver; Warren Bigelow on the home ranch; and Clara May Bigelow, Alliance, Nebr. There are two brothers and two sisters living: Lee Bigelow of Harrison ad Ray Bigelow of Denver, and Mrs. Neal Evans of Chadron and Cleo Bigelow of Harrison.

Among the relatives from Lusk who attended the funeral services were Mrs. Lewis and children, Mrs. J. W. Christian, sister of Mrs. Bigelow, Mr. and Mrs. George Christian, Frank Christian, John Chistian, Mr. and Mrs. Stanley ZumBrunnen, Mr. and Mrs. Leslie ZumBrunnen, Aubery ZumBrunnen of Kearney, Nebr., Mr. and Mrs. Roy ZumBrunnen of Kirtley.

Del Bigelow Rites Held at Harrison

Funeral services for Del J. Bigelow were held from the Harrison Methodist Church last Tuesday afternoon, Aug. 7, and burial was made in the Harrison Cemetery.

Pallbearers were George W. Wickersham, Wm. Wickersham, Alvin Publow, Vernon Wilson, Robert Powell and Burdette Heckert. Honorary pallbearers were V. L. Hanson, 0. L. Fox, Elmus Corbin, Miles Webster, Cleve Zimmerman, Ed Pfeiffer, John Munn and Thera Powell.

Mr. Bigelow died at the Chadron Municipal Hospital Aug. 5. He had been a life-long resident of Sioux County, Nebr., being born March 27, 1890 on the homestead of his parents, Mr. and Mrs. E. A. Bigelow, northwest of Harrison.

On July 12, 1914 he married Dorcas ZumBrunnen of Kirtley and they began housekeeping on his homestead four miles southeast of Harrison where they have lived since. She survives him.

To them were born two sons and three daughters, all of whom survive: Lucille Bigelow of Scottsbluff, Eugene of Denver, Ion Lewis of Lusk, Warren of Harrison and Clara May of Alliance. Also survivsng are seven grandchildren, two brothers, Lee of Harrison and Ray of Denver; and two sisters, Mabel Evans and Cleo Bigelow of Chadron.

Mr. Bigelow was active in community affairs and for 16 years had served on the Sioux County High School board of regents, being president at the time of his death. He was a member of the Harrison Methodist Church and of the Woodman of the World.

He had become widely known as a breeder of registered Hereford cattle and had taken an active part in shows and sales of this area for many years.
