Nancy Carole Surbeck
Nancy Carole Castleberry Surbeck
Together Again...
After being together for fifty years in life, one week shy of the second year anniversary of Dad's passing, Mom, too, passed on.
Nancy Carole Castleberry Surbeck passed away, at home, on July 31, 2008. She was, as requested, immediately laid to rest beside her beloved husband, Jon, at Moriah Ranch, in a family plot.
Nancy was born October 23, 1941 to Florence V. and Chester Castleberry, of Whitehall, Ill. Nancy and Jon were engaged in 1956, married in 1959, and together loved and raised five children: Jon M., Joel W., Tresa T., Twyla S., and Kally J.
Nancy loved her own children with all her heart and was always devoted to them. Her beautiful heart was big enough, however, to hold room for many others. During her years of teaching Elementary Education, in both Illinois and in Colorado, she lovingly touched the lives of hundreds of children and their families.
In her life's journey, she encountered many wonderful people, some faced with illness and suffering, mentally, emotionally, physically, and spiritually. It was with the hurt and needing that she felt the greatest call to serve and, accordingly, she devoted countless hours of her life by phone, in person, at peoples homes, in shelters, and through churches to them.
Mom's passing though heart wrenching for those of us who ache from her absence can be better viewed as she always looked forward to its coming, as a reuniting, as an end to a well run race, and as the beginning of an existence with her savior.
Nancy leaves behind two sisters, Sue Jane Bertram and family, and Sally Jean Henson and family, all of Illinois. She preceded all five of their children and their families in death.
