Jimmie "Jim" E. Corson
Jimmie "Jim" E. Corson, age 80, passed away Wednesday, July 9, 2008, at Poplar Living Center in Casper. He had been in ill health the past several years, suffering from Alzheimer's and Parkinson's.
Jim was born Sept. 7, 1927, in St. Louis, Missouri, to James D. and Clarisa (Weakland) Corson. At the young age of 14 he went to work in the coal mines of Pennsylvania.
He moved to Wyoming in 1952 and went to work driving truck for National Tank Company, working for them until 1959. He then took a course in welding, and went back to work for National Tank. He later worked as a truck driver and as a mechanic for Loffland Brothers, and retired after 25 years with them.
On Feb. 12, 1959, he married Rose Murphy. They lived in Mills, Cody, and Casper, Wyo., before moving to Douglas in 2003.
Jim belonged to Our Lady of Fatima Catholic Church in Casper, he was Past-Master of Blue Lodge #15 of the Casper Masons, Knight Templar, belonged to York Rite and Scottish Rite, the Shrine Korean Temple in Rawlins, the Shrine T-Patrol, and the NRA. His family was very proud of him going through all the levels of Masons doing the memorization despite leaving school at a very young age. He enjoyed fishing and hunting, and spending time with his many grandchildren, great-grandchildren, and all the little ones. He was an all-around handyman, and had great patience. Jim was always helping others - espeially the underdog. He will be greatly missed.
He is survived by his wife of 51 years, Rose, of Glenrock; his daughter Renee Leppard and her husband Michael of San Marcos, Texas; step-children Mary Ann Davis of Glenrock; Jim Tangney and his wife Sheila of Lusk; and Rita Downs and her husband Bob of Douglas; brothers Don and Tom and their wives of Casper, Paul and his wife of Ohio, and Jack and his wife of Pennsylvania; sisters Shirley Moore and her husband of Casper, Alberta Brigham and Alice Bartels of Oklahoma, Edna and Joyce; 15 grandchildren; 23 great-grandchildren; and six great-great-grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his parents; a brother, Robert; his step-son John Tangney; and four grandchildren.
The family suggests memorials to The Shriners Hospital in Salt Lake City or to St. Joseph's Children's Home in Torrington.
A memorial service will be held at a later date.
