Frank Martin, 79, Of Van Tassell Dies Here Tuesday

Frank I. Martin, 79, Van Tassell merchant and long time resident of Wyoming, died at the Spencer Hospital Tuesday forenoon, Oct. 29 (should be October 28) after being in ill health for some time.

Mr. Martin and his wife owned and conducted a grocery store and service station at Van Tassell and formerly lived on a ranch south of Van Tassell.

He was born at Dubuque, Iowa Oct. 5, 1873 and came to Wyoming nearly forty years ago.

Funeral services for Mr. Martin will be conducted from the Peet Chapel on Thursday afternoon at 2:00 o'clock with the Rev. Jacob Nein officiating.

A sister of Mr. Martin's, Mrs. Harold Evans of Casper has been here with Mr. Martin during his final illness.

Last Rites Held For Frank Martin

Last rites for Frank I. Martin were conducted from the Peet Chapel Thursday afternoon, Oct. 30, at 2:00 o'clock with the Rev. Jacob Nein, pastor of the Congregational Church, officiating.

The songs "Abide With Me" and "In the Garden" were sung by Mrs. Emerson Bonner and Mrs. A. F. DeCastro accompanied on the chapel organ by Mrs. J. P. Watson.

Interment was made in the Lusk cemetery with Andrew McMaster, Frank Hanson, Hill Boyles of Van Tassell, A.C. Tibbits of Lusk and Roy Steers, Jr., and James Steers of Denver acting as casket bearers.

Frank I. Martin, 79, died at the Spencer Hospital Oct. 28 after being in ill health for some time.

He was born at Dubuque, Ia. Oct. 5, 1873, the son of Kent W. and Mary Amelia Martin. In his infancy the family moved to Michigan City, Ind., where he received his schooling. As a young man he took a job with the Chicago Daily News as a printer but the inside work did not agree with him so in a short time he found outside employment.

He was married to Mrs. Jennie Steers in 1905 and in 1913 they came to Van Tassell where they later homesteaded and became engaged in the livestock business. In July of 1936 Mrs. Martin died at Savannah, Mo.

Mr. Martin was twice married, his second marriage being to Miss Marie Heckert on Dec. 12, 1940. A daughter, Joann Mary, was born to them.

Mr. and Mrs. Martin continued to make their home on the ranch until September, 1943 when he retired from active ranching and they moved to Van Tassell where he has since owned and operated a grocery store and service station.

Survivors include his wife and daughter, Joann Mary; a stepson, Roy Steers; two brothers, Roy Martin of Denver and Clifford Martin of Ord, Mich.; two sisters, Mrs. Daisy Kruse of Lakeland, Fla. and Mrs. Harold D. Evans of Casper, Wyo., four grandsons and five great-granddaughters.
