John Bourret, 90 Dies February 2 at Torrington
John Stephen Bourret, 90, early resident of Sioux County, died the morning of February 2 in the Torrington Hospital.
He was born August 23, 1880, in Highland, Wis., the son of Peter and Mary Cross Bourret, and came with his parents to western Nebraska at the age of six. The family came by train to Chadron and then on to Sioux County by covered wagon. He grew up in Sioux County where his father was foreman for the Spade Ranch. As a young man, he worked roundups in the area where Torrington now stands. Later he homesteaded on Indian Creek in Sioux County and lived in the county until moving to Torrington 26 years ago.
He married Mary Griffith at Crawford.
He was a member of the Catholic Church, the Knights of Columbus and the Elks Lodge.
Survivors include his widow, two daughters, Mrs. Joseph (Mary K.) McLaughlin of Torrington and Mrs. Rosalee Warren of Lusk; two sons, John S. Jr. of Lusk and Charles J. of Harrison, 11 grandchildren and five great-grandchildren.
Two brothers, five sisters and one grandchild preceded him in death.
Rosary was recited at the Colyer Funeral Home in Torrington at 7:30 p.m. Wednesday.
Funeral services were held at 10:30 a.m. Thursday at St. Rose Catholic Church with the Rev. Thomas Cleary officiating. Burial was in Valley View Cemetery.
Pallbearers were Dan Hebner, Elmer Pullen, John Bixler, Neal Kelly, William Coffee and Don E. Scott.
