Last Rites Held For John A. Hanson

Following a brief illness, John A. Hanson, 78, a life-long resident of Sioux County, Neb., died at the Spencer Hospital in Lusk, October 18, and funeral services were conducted from the Methodist Church in Harrison on Sunday afternoon, October 21, with Rev. E. M. Etheredge officiating.

Mr. Hanson is the father of Mrs. A. C. Tibbets of Lusk. He was born in Linnegrad, Sweden, March 29, 1867, and at the age of 13 he came to the United States and went to Storm Lake, Iowa, and later to Early, Iowa, where he made his home with an older brother. He worked as a section hand for the railroad in that state until July, 1888, when he was transferred to a section west of Harrison, Neb., where he became section foreman, which position he held for ten years.

In the meantime Mr. Hanson acquired land holdings in Wyoming, north of Van Tassell, and also land on the Nebraska side of the line, composing a sizeable ranch, which he has operated for a good many years.

He was married to Miss Ida Sides at Chadron, Neb., July 1, 1886. To them were born four sons and five daughters, two of the sons preceding him in death. His wife passed away October 29, 1942. Five brothers and two sisters also preceded him in death.

Mr. Hanson is survived by two sons, Guy and Frank of Harrison, and five daughters, Ruby of Kirtley, Wyo.; Edna of Harrison, Neb.; Florence of Douglas, Wyo.; Helen of Boulder City, Nev., and Clara of Lusk, Wyo.

John Hanson of Harrison Dies

John A. Hanson, 78, of Harrison, Neb., died at the Spencer Hospital Thursday evening, October 18, after being admitted the previous day. He is the father of Mrs. A. C. Tibbits of Lusk.

The Peet Mortuary was in charge and funeral services held from the Methodist Church in Harrison, Sunday afternoon.

Mr. Hanson was a long-time resident of the Harrison community and well known to many people here.
