Pieter Van der Giessen
Node Resident Dies Here Sunday
Pieter Van der Giessen, 75, resident of the Node community, died at the Spencer Hospital the morning February 11. The week prior to his death, Menno Kaan brought him to the Spencer Hospital.
Funeral services were conducted from the Peet Chapel Tuesday afternoon at 2:00 o'clock, with the Rev. Frank Schweissing, pastor of the Baptist Church of Lusk, officiating. Mrs. Jack Niles and Mrs. A. F. DeCastro sang "In the Garden," "In the Sweet Bye and Bye" and "The Old Rugged Cross." Mrs. Judson P. Watson furnished the organ accompaniment.
Burial was made in the Lusk Cemetery, with the following casket bearers: Menno C. Kaan, J. C. Shane, Joseph Pfister, H. E. Sabin, Ray Walter and Charles Humphrey.
Pieter Van der Giessen was born in the Netherlands in 1876. In 1904 be came to the United States, settling at Pella, Iowa. In 1909 he moved to Corsica, South Dakota, coming to Wyoming in the fall of 1913. At that time Mr. Van der Giessen homsteaded six miles south of Node, living there until his death Sunday.
Mr. Van der Giessen, who was a member of the Dutch Reformed Church of Corsica, South Dakota, leaves no known family.
